X’s Unusual Move: Iran’s Khamenei Account Suspended and Then Restored

X temporarily suspended the Hebrew account of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, before reinstating it.

On Monday, the Times of Israel reported that users trying to access Khamenei’s Hebrew account on X initially encountered a message indicating that the account had been suspended for rule violations. However, it is now accessible again. This suspension came shortly after the account issued a warning directed at Israel, which has drawn significant attention despite the account’s reinstatement. The message stated, “The Zionist regime (Israel) has made a mistake. They’ve miscalculated regarding Iran,” adding, “We will make them understand Iran’s strength, capabilities, and initiative.”

X’s current policies generally prohibit content from “violent and hateful groups” but allow exceptions for posts from “national or governmental entities.” This made the suspension of Khamenei’s account particularly unusual. X has not officially responded to media inquiries regarding the suspension and subsequent reversal.

The account, created in October of this year, currently contains only two posts. The first, posted on Sunday, was a brief message stating, “In the name of Allah.” The second, posted on Monday, contained the warning directed at Israel.
