Two New York Yankees fans have been banned from attending Game 5 of the World Series for disrupting an outfielder’s play.
On Thursday, the Yankees announced, “Two fans were ejected from yesterday’s game for making unacceptable physical contact with LA Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts. Today marks our last home game of the season, and those fans will not be allowed to attend under any circumstances.”
Yankees fans Austin Capobianco and John Peter interfered with Betts’ defense during Game 4. In the bottom of the first inning, Gleyber Torres hit a foul ball down the right-field line, and Betts leaped against the fence to make the catch. However, Capobianco and Peter grabbed Betts’ arm and took the ball from his glove forcibly. Despite Betts dropping the ball due to their interference, the umpires ruled it a catch and called Torres out. Security personnel promptly ejected Capobianco and Peter from the stadium for their actions.
