Lionel Messi Opens Up About His Journey in MLS: Aiming for Cup Glory

Must read

According to an ESPN report on Friday, Messi acknowledged that he has altered his playing style due to aging. Since joining Major League Soccer’s Inter Miami in July 2023, he stated, “It’s about the moments, the situations, and my age. I’m gradually adapting to everything. I’ve started to reinvent myself and blend into the league; it’s a new experience. I felt very comfortable from the beginning.”

At 35, Messi led Argentina to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, showcasing his exceptional skills and performance. He dazzled defenders with explosive speed and impressive dribbling skills in his younger years. However, as he entered his 30s, he noticed a decline in his overall activity levels.

Despite this, Messi compensates with his quick thinking and exceptional situational awareness, continuing to pose a threat on the field. Since moving to North America, he has remained focused on winning titles. Shortly after joining Miami, he led the team to its first-ever victory in the Leagues Cup. Despite participating in only 19 of 34 games this season, he has scored 20 goals and provided 16 assists, helping Miami secure the Supporters’ Shield (awarded to the regular-season champion) and earning a nomination for MLS Most Valuable Player (MVP).

As Miami aims for MLS Cup glory in the playoffs, Messi remarked, “Not long after joining Miami, we won the League Cup. It was something special for us, and now we are eager to advance to the playoffs and win.” He added, “To build the club, we need to win,” emphasizing his commitment to succeeding for both himself and the team’s dedicated fans.
