Shohei Ohtani has successfully undergone surgery to address a shoulder injury.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Dodgers confirmed that Ohtani underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn cartilage in his left shoulder joint, performed by team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The team is optimistic that the surgery will not affect his readiness for the 2025 season and expects him to be fully recovered and ready for spring training.

Ohtani first reported discomfort in his shoulder after stealing second base during the seventh inning of Game 2 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium on October 27. Despite the injury, the two-way star continued to play in the remaining series games, contributing to the Dodgers’ World Series victory over the New York Yankees.

The Dodgers are confident that this injury and the surgery will not significantly impact Ohtani’s ability to participate in the 2025 season. In the 2023 season, Ohtani demonstrated his elite two-way capabilities before undergoing elbow surgery. He finished with a 10-5 record and 3.14 ERA on the mound while also hitting .304 with 44 home runs, 95 RBIs, and 29 stolen bases. This season, focusing exclusively on his hitting, he put up stellar numbers with a .310 batting average, 54 home runs, 130 RBIs, and 59 stolen bases. He made MLB history as the first player ever to reach the 50-homer, 50-stolen bases milestone in a single season.
