On Wednesday, the film adaptation of the musical Wicked launched its box office run, securing over 130,000 advance ticket sales.
According to the latest ticketing data, as of Wednesday, Wicked had a reservation rate of 39.4%, with approximately 138,000 tickets already sold in advance.
The film significantly outperformed the erotic thriller Hidden Face, which also premiered on the same day. Hidden Face achieved a reservation rate of 14.3%, with around 50,000 tickets sold.
Wicked is a well-known hit musical that tells the story of Elphaba and Glinda, who navigate unexpected challenges while building their friendship—unaware of their own powers and true natures. The film showcases stunning costumes and memorable musical numbers. Actress and singer Cynthia Erivo stars alongside pop sensation Ariana Grande, with Jon Chu directing.
Currently, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 has the top spot at the box office, having drawn around 530,000 viewers in its first week of release.
