New Phone, New Era: South Korea’s President Ditches Old Number!

Must read

Yonhap News

It was reported on Sunday that South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and First Lady Kim Keon Hee have switched to new phone numbers, replacing the ones they used before the presidential election.

A spokesperson for the presidential office stated, “As previously mentioned, there will be changes to the communication system, and we ask for your understanding on this matter.”

Since taking office, Yoon has reportedly used his mobile phone to communicate with various individuals on matters unrelated to national security.

In a press conference on November 7, Yoon hinted at changing his communication methods when responding to questions about political broker Myung Tae Kyun. He remarked, “My wife and I should have changed our phones after I took office.”

He further explained, “The Chief of Staff and the head of the National Security Office have advised me to change my phone since the start of my term, but I felt a strong need to see incoming messages immediately and directly.” He also emphasized, “I will take steps to minimize risks and ensure that the public does not have to worry or feel distressed.”
