South Korea’s Acting Minister of Justice, Kim Seok Woo, stated on Wednesday that while President Yoon Suk Yeol did receive professional hairstyling when appearing at the Constitutional Court’s impeachment trial, no special privileges were granted.

During a session of the National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee, Rep. Park Eun Jung of the Homeland Innovation Party questioned, “President Yoon appeared at the impeachment trial with a styled haircut and wearing accessories such as a watch. Who covered the costs?”

Acting Minister Kim replied, “No special financial support was provided.”

He further explained, “As for the hairstyle, a stylist was brought in, which has been a common practice for politicians appearing on screen.” He added that there have been multiple past cases of this. Regarding President Yoon wearing a watch, he stated that it complied with regulations.

When Rep. Park raised additional concerns, asking whether President Yoon received special privileges such as using a waiting room and having meals while not being in the courtroom during the Constitutional Court proceedings, Kim dismissed the claim, stating, “There is no difference in terms of food or facilities compared to other detainees.”

Regarding the security measures applied to President Yoon as a detainee versus his presidential security, Kim explained, “There is a fundamental difference between the security provided in correctional facilities and presidential security. While there may be overlap, the presence of detainee security does not exclude presidential protection.” He emphasized that efforts are being made to adhere strictly to relevant regulations.
