Must read

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a speeding car coming from behind while walking on the pavement.

According to the Suwon Southern Police Station on the 7th, at around 7:05 a.m. that day, an SUV driven by a person in their 60s charged onto the pavement in a residential area of Mangpo-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, and hit a woman in her 50s. The victim was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest but passed away in the end.

The vehicle involved in the accident did not slow down even after hitting the victim and finally stopped after crashing into a nearby utility pole. The driver and his wife, a fellow passenger, are receiving treatment at a hospital for minor injuries. They have yet to be formally interrogated by the police due to the shock of the accident.

The driver was not drunk and reportedly claimed that the accident was due to sudden unintended acceleration.

The victim was on her way to her part-time job at a convenience store when the accident occurred.

The police plan to charge the driver of violating (causing death) the Act on Special Cases concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents and request the National Forensic Service for an analysis of the event data recorder (EDR), CCTV footage, and dashcam footage.
