Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has pledged full cooperation with police investigations following a tragic incident involving the death of three passengers after a Xiaomi electric vehicle (EV) collided with a highway guardrail and caught fire.
According to Chinese economic media outlet Di Yi Chai Jing and Hong Kong’s Sing Tao Daily on Tuesday, Lei issued a statement expressing his deep sorrow over the incident on March 29. “The tragic deaths of three young girls bring unbearable grief to their families, friends, and all of us,” he said. “On behalf of Xiaomi, I extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to their families.”
Lei explained that their team promptly formed a special task force and arrived at the scene on March 30, cooperating with the police to provide all available vehicle data. He noted, “As the investigation is still underway, we haven’t been able to access the accident vehicle. Therefore, we can’t answer many questions.”

“At this point, I felt I could no longer remain silent,” Lei stated. “Whatever the outcome, Xiaomi will not avoid the responsibility. We are committed to fully cooperating with the police investigation and addressing the concerns of the families and the public.”
The incident occurred on March 29 when Xiaomi’s EV, the SU7, exploded after a collision on a highway in Anhui Province, claiming the lives of three passengers. Footage on social media shows the vehicle striking the highway guardrail before being consumed by flames.
Xiaomi reported that the vehicle operated in Navigate on Autopilot mode before the accident at 116 km/h (approximately 72 mph).
