The U.S. media reported on the 20th (local time) that Tesla, the American electric vehicle company, has been carrying out massive layoffs for over a month, causing anxiety among employees.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, sent an email to employees in the middle of last month stating that he would reduce more than 10% of the workforce. Since then, layoff notifications have continued for over a month.
Bloomberg News cited sources and predicted that such layoffs would continue until June. The company has been notifying employees of the layoffs via email or message, causing employees to check their messages in anxiety every morning. Bloomberg reported, “One Tesla employee described this atmosphere as similar to the TV series Squid Game”.
After Tesla laid off most of the staff of the Supercharger team responsible for the charging infrastructure, significant gaps appeared in the work, according to the remaining employees. Rich Otto, who recently resigned from his role as product launch manager at Tesla, posted on LinkedIn, “Great companies are made up of great talent and great products, and the latter (great products) are only possible when the company’s employees thrive.” He added, “The recent layoffs that have shaken the morale of the company and its employees have taken away this balance and harmony.” He deleted the post after it was reported in the media.
