BOYNEXTDOOR is set to return with a song for the younger generation, tapping into the emotions of a modern breakup.
On January 6, BOYNEXTDOOR will release their first digital single, “If I Say, I LOVE YOU,” a track that captures the raw, often messy emotions that follow a breakup.
This lively dance track humorously explores the realities of life after a split. Its self-deprecating lyrics about dealing with the breakup aftermath are paired with an upbeat, band-driven melody. The group’s agency promises to challenge the common notion that breakup songs must be sorrowful, aiming to showcase a more vibrant and playful charm instead.
“If I Say, I LOVE YOU” stays true to BOYNEXTDOOR’s signature style of creating music that resonates with the everyday experiences of its fans. The group has built a strong connection with listeners by exploring universal themes and emotions. Its past releases include songs about the emptiness that follows first love (“But Sometimes”), the frustration of unreciprocated love (“Earth, Wind & Fire”), and the grounded confidence of youth on the brink of adulthood (“Nice Guy”). The members have also showcased their individuality with witty, self-penned lyrics that set them apart from the crowd.
As the year comes to a close, BOYNEXTDOOR continues to stay busy. After performing on TV Asahi’s Music Station SUPER LIVE 2024 on Friday, they will make history as the first K-pop boy group to perform on Nihon TV’s Annual Music Awards 2024. The group will then wrap up its year by appearing on MBC’s Gayo Daejejeon on December 31.
