Actress Kim Min-hee and director Hong Sang-soo have recently welcomed a son into their lives.
Industry sources revealed on Tuesday that Kim gave birth to a baby boy and is currently recuperating at a postpartum care center in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province.
Kim’s pregnancy was first reported by a media outlet in January. Later, the heavily pregnant actress was spotted with Hong at Incheon International Airport as they headed to a film festival.
The couple’s relationship blossomed after they met on the set of Hong’s film Right Now, Wrong Then in 2015. They publicly confirmed their relationship during a press conference for On the Beach at Night Alone in 2017. Following this, Hong filed for divorce from his wife, but the court rejected his petition.
Given Hong’s current marital status, there is a significant interest in how the couple will handle their son’s family registry and birth registration. Since the abolition of the patriarchal family registry system in 2008, South Korea has implemented a new family relationship registration system, allowing unmarried women to independently register their children’s births, making it likely that Kim will register her son under her name.
