As it is revealed that singer Goo Ha Ra played a pivotal role in unraveling the Burning Sun scandal, the burglary of Goo Ha Ra’s safe is gaining attention once again.
On the 21st, various online communities shed new light on the burglary incident at Goo Ha Ra’s residence that was reported by MBC six months ago.
In January 2020, as soon as the family left the house after the funeral proceedings, a man broke into Goo Ha Ra’s Cheongdam-dong residence.
The culprit captured on CCTV had his face covered with glasses and a mask and wore gloves. He seemed to know the password to the front door as he entered the password as if it were his house. When the door didn’t open, he climbed the wall and broke into the house through the second-floor balcony.
The man only stole a safe about 12 inches in length and width and fled the scene. As if he was familiar with the interior structure of the house, he went straight to the closet where the safe was kept. He didn’t touch any other expensive items except for the safe.
Goo Ha Ra’s acquaintances speculated that the culprit was someone who knew her well or a third party acting on behalf of that person, based on the fact that the culprit attempted to break into the house by naturally pressing the front door password and that he seemed to know the interior of the house. Attorney No Jong Eon, the legal representative of Goo Ha Ra’s family, said, “Goo Ha Ra usually stored valuables like necklaces and earrings, contracts used for investment, and old mobile phones in the safe.”
At the time, the police investigated the case for over nine months but ultimately failed to identify the culprit.
Profiler Bae Sang Hoon, who analyzed the CCTV footage, stated, “He doesn’t seem to be a professional burglar or someone with burglary experience.” He added, “There is something like reflective material that flashes on his clothes, which professionals wouldn’t wear as it would quickly catch people’s attention.” He speculated that the culprit had an urgent need to steal the safe. He further added, “As he only takes what he needs without touching anything else, the burglary seems to be committed by someone who urgently needs the item in the safe. It wouldn’t be for the money. How would he know what is in the safe? It could be empty. If he were just a regular thief, he would have checked other items as well.”
Bae suggested the possibility that the culprit was after the mobile phone, saying, “Nowadays, even private companies can do forensic examinations on mobile phones. Even if you delete old photos and videos, they remain.”
On the 19th, BBC News Korea reported in a documentary on the Burning Sun incident that Goo Ha Ra played a crucial role in revealing the collusive relationship between the police and problematic celebrities, such as Seungri and Jung Joon Young.
