Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has officially allowed the posting of adult content on X (formerly Twitter).
According to AP News and other media outlets on the 3rd (local time), X has recently updated its content policies on its website, stating that it will “officially allow users to display agreed-upon adult content.” X argued that “if it is produced and distributed consensually, materials related to sexual themes should also be able to be produced, distributed, and consumed,” adding that “whether visual or written, sexual expressions can be legitimate forms of artistic expression.”
AP News and others explained that while the posting of adult content was allowed when Musk acquired Twitter in 2022, the policy has been formalized this time.
X restricts adult content for children and unwilling adults, emphasizing that “content that encourages plunder, non-consent, sexual objectification and harm to minors, and obscenity is prohibited.”
This principle also applies to the content generated by artificial intelligence (AI), and X added that it requests users who regularly post adult content to display a warning message in front of all images and videos.
Brooke Erin Duffy, an associate professor of communication at Cornell University, assessed, “X’s move to allow adult content aligns well with the company’s marketing strategy after Musk,” adding “The provocative X has been striving to differentiate itself from competitors who tout brand safety.”
