A recent study has found that pomegranates, often hailed as a superfood, may effectively prevent six types of cancer, including colorectal and lung cancer.
According to Food Science & Nutrition, research suggests that regularly incorporating pomegranates into one’s diet could reduce cancer risk by about 20%.
The study, conducted by experts in pharmacy, nutrition, and chemistry from South Korea, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Nigeria, and Africa, uncovered some exciting new findings about pomegranates. Animal experiments revealed that polyphenols—antioxidants found in pomegranates—can inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
Furthermore, the research highlighted that pomegranate flavonoids and tannins play a crucial role in controlling chronic inflammation, preventing tumor formation and growth, and slowing down the progression of cancer cells, ultimately lowering cancer risk. These powerful nutrients are believed to help prevent and treat various types of cancer, including colorectal, breast, prostate, bladder, lung, and skin cancer.

The research team explained that pomegranates inhibit cancer cells’ toxicity, growth, and proliferation. Previous studies have shown that pomegranates alter several cancer-related signaling pathways, providing anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory benefits. They further emphasized that adding pomegranates to a diet, alongside various vegetables, could reduce the risk of cancer by over 20%.
The tangy pomegranate is also rich in plant-based estrogen (a type of female hormone), making it especially helpful in alleviating symptoms of menopause for women. No wonder it’s often called a gift from God for women. In addition, pomegranates are known to boost immunity, slow aging, enhance skin health, and support cardiovascular health.
However, individuals with a history of breast cancer or those already diagnosed with it should exercise caution when consuming pomegranates in large quantities, as excessive intake could have negative effects. Additionally, some individuals may experience digestive issues or allergies, so consuming pomegranates in moderation is important.
