Despite Scandal, Trump’s Support Remains Strong in Key States

The voters of Georgia, a key battleground state for the November U.S. election, appear divided over the guilty verdict in former President Donald Trump’s hush-money scandal.

According to the U.S. congressional journal The Hill on the 5th (local time), a Quinnipiac University poll of 1,203 registered voters in Georgia found that 50% of respondents acknowledged the jury’s verdict on the allegations against Trump. The 12 members of the jury involved in the criminal trial of Trump’s hush-money scandal unanimously found him guilty on all 34 charges after the court hearing in a Manhattan Criminal Court on the 30th of last month. However, 44% of the respondents did not acknowledge the guilty verdict. The poll was conducted from May 30 to June 3.

Regarding political tendencies, 96% of Democratic supporters agreed with the verdict, while 86% of Republican supporters disagreed. Among independents, 52% acknowledged the verdict, while 42% did not.

When asked if the verdict would affect their voting intentions for Trump, 54% of respondents said it would not change their stance, while 23% said they would support him more. The percentage of respondents who said their support would decrease was 22%.

In response to a question regarding who the voters would vote for if the elections were held today, Trump led with 49% support, surpassing President Biden at 44%.
