Despite her defeat in the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris is still actively seeking donations. The Democratic candidate reportedly raised over $1 billion throughout her campaign.
According to the Associated Press on Sunday, Harris’s campaign has been consistently reaching out to both small and large donors since the election loss. While smaller donors are contacted via email, the campaign has been reaching out to larger contributors through phone calls, urging them to provide additional financial support.
The Associated Press further analyzed that Harris’s campaign continues to solicit funds post-election due to the significant amount of money spent during the campaign. Democratic strategist Adrian Hemond explained, “The Harris campaign certainly spent more money than it raised,” adding that the campaign has continued to request fundraising assistance even after the election.
By mid-October, prior to Election Day, Harris’s campaign reported having $119 million in cash on hand. Patrick Stauffer, the campaign’s former chief financial officer, confirmed there was no debt on Election Day. However, the Associated Press noted that assessing the current financial situation might be difficult, given the complexities of post-election finances.
A source familiar with the financials of Harris’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) disclosed that the campaign is still receiving invoices from various vendors and service providers. This means that, although the election is over, several outstanding payments remain to be settled. As a result, the Associated Press reported that a decision was made to suspend the payment of staff salaries, which had originally been scheduled to be paid by the end of the year. However, the source emphasized that the expected shortfall is relatively modest compared to the overall scale of the campaign.
