The military revealed on the 30th that North Korea is conducting GPS jamming attacks from the northern areas of the Northern Limit Line (NLL) in the West Sea, targeting the south. It was revealed that it is disrupting the fishing operations as the international shipping network installed on the vessels has stopped functioning since this morning.
According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a GPS jamming signal was detected in the northwest islands region from 7:50 AM that day. Consequently, it was reported that the shipping network did not operate smoothly, which caused difficulties in fishing operations such as the destination being displayed as North Korea. A military official explained, “There are currently no limitations on military operations due to GPS interference.”
The military is operating a detection system to counter North Korea’s GPS interference and is sharing real-time information with related agencies such as the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Korea Coast Guard.
North Korea also carried out a GPS jamming attack from the north of the NLL in the West Sea towards the south on the early morning of the 29th.
