Recently, there has been a series of fatal alligator attacks in the Southern United States.
According to authorities in Houston, Texas on the 30th, the police discovered a human body inside an alligator’s jaws in a swamp area connected to Clear Lake on the southeast coast of Houston around 8:40 AM on the 28th.
The police reported that they shot the alligator to prevent further damage to the body.
Afterward, a police dive team was dispatched to the scene to retrieve the body and the alligator carcass.
The police explained that they were searching the area after receiving a report of a missing woman that day.
The victim is believed to be a woman in her 60s. The police are waiting for autopsy results from the county medical examiner to confirm her identity and cause of death.
According to a local CBS affiliate, the victim’s husband told the police that his wife did not return after going for a walk around 7:30 PM the day before the incident.
Resident Angela Delarus said, “There are alligators living down there that are 8 feet and 10 feet long. I know where they like to lie in the sun. But it’s a little scary to hear that something like this happened here for the first time.”
About eight months ago, the body of a 41-year-old woman was found caught in the jaws of a 13-foot-long alligator in Largo, Florida.
In February, an 85-year-old woman was killed by a 10-foot-long alligator while walking her dog in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Although alligator attacks are less common in Texas compared to Florida, CBS reported that residents’ fears are growing after an incident earlier this month in Cleveland, northeast of Houston, where a police officer was bitten while trying to chase an alligator off the road.
