Vijay Singh (62, Fiji) will not be teeing it up at the Masters, a major championship on the PGA Tour, making an impressive streak of 31 consecutive appearances come to an end. The 89th Masters is set to begin on Friday at the iconic Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.
On Tuesday, Augusta National Golf Club officials announced that Singh had informed them of his withdrawal due to injury. Singh, who claimed the green jacket in 2000, boasts an impressive 34 PGA Tour victories and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2006.
Singh’s Master’s attendance has been flawless since 1994. In his 31 appearances, he made the cut 20 times and enjoyed a remarkable run of top-10 finishes from 2002 to 2006. Last year, he finished tied for 58th. Throughout his Master’s career, Singh has accumulated $2,678,117 in prize money.
The initial field of 96 players for this year’s Masters has now been reduced to 95 following Singh’s withdrawal.
