NBA’s New Defensive Giant: Rookie Wembanyama Makes History

Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs made history in the National Basketball Association (NBA) by being the first rookie to be selected for the All-Defensive First Team.

According to the NBA office on the 22nd (Korean time), Wembanyama received support from 98 out of 99 voters, earning 86 votes for the First Team votes and 12 votes for the Second Team. He was selected as the best defensive team for the 2023~2024 season alongside Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves), Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat), Herb Jones (New Orleans Pelicans), and Anthony Davis (LA Lakers). While there were five rookies selected for the NBA All-Defensive Second Team, Wembanyama is the first rookie to join the First Team.

Wembanyama was unanimously honored as the best rookie player on April 7th. Standing at 7 feet 4 inches tall, he maintained an average of 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, 1.2 steals, and 3.9 assists in his 71 regular season games.
