North Korea has reportedly dispatched a defense technology delegation to Russia. Analysts suggest that this move could be part of compensation for North Korea’s alleged deployment of troops to support Russia in its war in Ukraine.
According to Daily NK, the North Korean defense technology delegation arrived in Russia on February 4 and is currently engaged in technical discussions. The delegation’s primary objective is to upgrade MiG-29 and Su-25 fighter jets, assemble aircraft, and acquire radar development capabilities. Russia, in return, is expected to provide key technologies related to precision missile guidance, aircraft assembly, and radar systems to North Korea by March. If these technologies are transferred, North Korea is expected to enhance its missile defense and evasion capabilities, narrow its air force power gap, and strengthen reconnaissance capabilities.
Last February, North Korea requested technology transfers from Russia to strengthen its air force. According to sources, once the technology transfer is complete, North Korea plans to establish an aircraft assembly line by the end of the year. Additionally, North Korea is reportedly preparing to deliver hundreds of thousands of artillery shells (152mm and 122mm) and hundreds of short-range ballistic missiles, including KN-23 tactical guided missiles and K-24 super-large multiple rocket launchers, to Russia by the end of March.
Sources also indicate that North Korea has begun implementing a plan to provide Russia with specialized electronic reconnaissance units, mechanized infantry, and airborne troops starting in early February.
