South Korean Man Who Drugged Teen with Meth Faces Jail Time

Must read

A man in his 20s who repeatedly injected methamphetamine into a teenage girl and himself has been sentenced to jail. He was put on trial for injecting the drug into a teenage girl at a hotel, asking, “Do you want to try something that makes you feel good?”

According to the legal community on the 21st, the 12th Criminal Agreement of the Seoul Eastern District Court sentenced Mr. Kim (24) to three years and three months in prison for violating the Drug Control Act. The court also ordered him to complete an 80-hour drug addiction rehabilitation education program.

Mr. Kim is accused of asking the teenager to hold out her arms and injecting methamphetamine at a hotel in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on May 10th last year. Mr. Kim also injected meth into his arm. In June and July of the same year, Mr. Kim met the teenager again and injected meth into both her and his arms. Until August of the same year, Mr. Kim committed multiple crimes with accomplices such as administering drugs, purchasing drugs, and brokering drug deals.

Notably, Mr. Kim was on probation after being sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year probation for joint property damage and other charges at the Seoul Northern District Court in April last year. During the investigation of the two instances of drug administration in 2022, it was discovered that he had administered drugs again.

The court stated, “The administration of methamphetamine to a minor deserves severe punishment corresponding to the crime, considering the significant risk of physical and physiological damage to the minor and the resulting physical and mental sequelae.” The court also expressed doubt about whether the defendant has the will to quit drugs and comply with the law.

The court explained the reason for the sentence, saying, “However, considering that the defendant admitted all his crimes and is showing remorse, the amount and value of the drugs were relatively small. The defendant also did not use any means to coerce the victim. The defendant has been cooperative with the investigation, leading to further arrests thanks to his confession.”
