South Korea, Japan, and Australia Discuss Regional Security

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Defense Ministers of South Korea, Japan, and Australia held their first trilateral meeting on June 2.

South Korean Minister of National Defense Shin Won Sik, Australian Minister of Defense Richard Marles, and Japanese Minister of Defense Minoru Kihara had a breakfast meeting on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue, an Asia Security Conference held in Singapore.

The defense ministers from South Korea, Japan, and Australia discussed measures to deter threats from North Korea and shared their respective countries’ efforts for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

The trilateral defense ministers’ meeting between the three countries was conducted in the form of a breakfast meeting and it was decided that the announcement would be made after the conference without prior notice in consultation with the other countries.
